8/31/09 01:49 am - Cake Wrecks and non-wrecky cakes

In the past few weeks there have been several geek theme non-wreck cakes or "Sunday Sweets" like Doctor Who and Doctor Horrible. I am pretty sure there was a Firefly cake and if not I know I've seen one on Ace of Cakes (which I love that show so much!) Of course there are butt loads of Star Wars and Star Trek cakes floating around the internet. This got me thinking -

What would a Buffy the Vampire Slayer cake look like?

I am sure there are some out there. I bet I have even seen one or two, but I am more interested in what SHOULD it be. A tombstone? A stake? A crypt? A pile of crumbs representing a staked vampire? I have no idea what a BTVS cake should be. Maybe Spike's car or Giles or Sunnydale High post Graduation explosion? I just don't know!

I am sure there are shows and movies we could think of cake designs for! It'd be kind of fun. I always try to think of what kind of cake I would order and I have never successfully thought of one I would adore to have. It is kind of hard because you don't want something you'd really really love because having to eat it might be traumatic.

8/27/09 12:04 am - Being Human Marathon BBCAmerica

Catch up with all the first seasons episodes Saturday on BBC America! Yes I am posting this pretty much just for Linne! You can't miss any of the adorable George!

8/25/09 09:52 pm - I have a job and I watched a lot of Doctor Who.

I will be teaching speech communication classes at the local community college. Only one day a week, but for six hours, which is kind of crazy. Three hour blocks! That's a lot of time to have a class in one stretch so I am kind of freaked. Busy busy, I shall be busy!

Last Friday we watched Doctor Who for my birthday. It was awesome! I ate seriously garlic-y pizza and I am still recovering from it.

So the line up was the following:

"Bad Wolf"
"The Parting of the Ways"
"The Christmas Invasion"
"The Next Doctor"
"Planet of the Dead"

Maria and Doug had not watched the two newest eps so getting the chance to watch them with them for the first time was FUN! Also the big pretty tv was full of WIN! And the cake and the drinks...it was a very happy day and would love to repeat it anytime!

8/20/09 01:48 am - Happy Cute Boy Day!

August 20th is CUTE BOY DAY!

Today is the day that we gather in the objectification of men!

How do you celebrate?

Honor the male object of you lust. You could watch some dvds? You could listen to some music? You could post pictures in the comments of those whom you love or on your on LJ.

CELEBRATE CUTE BOYS!

I will be spending August 21st with The Doctor so most of my Cute Boy Day celebration is on hold till my b-day. Maria will be hosting a Doctor Who marathon and there will be cake! Woot-woo! I will give an update of what we watch. I think I will have to watch some James Marsters today since it is his birthday and because of him and several others that me and Ziggynj came up with Cute Boy Day. We have even considered expanding it to a monthly holiday based on hot males b-days...2010???

8/16/09 03:54 am - Being Human sucks in the good way

Damn. Being Human just totally sucked me in. Been watching it really late Saturday night the past few weeks and whatever ep just aired on BBC America was like "SPLORSH! You've been sucked in! Enjoy!"

Does splorsh sound like a good sucking sound?

Anyhoo, I went online to see if there is a series 2 and totally read spoilers for the rest of the series 1. By accident! Oh well, I actually find myself looking forward to it. I kind of love George and his big George ears. This is just the kind of summer tv I've been looking for.

Funny story about when I first started watching BUFFY... )

8/12/09 01:37 am - Doctor Who and Steampunk

Steampunk had little appeal to me, but in the context of Doctor Who it just works!

Geek Crafts recent post about JezebelCharms on Etsy - see what I mean? That is a deliciously geeky item that one could wear and NOT feel nerdy. You'd feel pretty, but secretly very geeky in the best way possible. So of course I checked out all of JezebelCharms etsy store and there is some lovely items! I like this Blink necklace and how about a little "Are you my Mummy?" Creepy and pretty!

There is also many non-Doctor Who items. I love this Lilith Night Demon necklace.

Nice to know if I think of Steampunk as taking timely things and SMOOSH into something cool it is better than "Creepy victorian stuff that is sci-fi" I think I've watched too many movies that make victorian things all asylums, creepy medical equipment, and lots and lots of blood. Shudder!

8/11/09 03:00 am - GO READ! You will enjoy!

HEY! Check out mariadeira.com for some good reading! Sci-fi, fantasy, extra creepy, and cool! Bring your night light!

Most recentlyStrange Horizon has published Maria's short story "Finisterre". Werewolf hunter - need I say more?

Also check out Maria's bibliography for a full list of published stories. I am so excited to see this list grow. And not just because Maria is a great and wonderful friend, but because she is a great and wonderful writer!

Did I just start a Christmas craft in August or have I been working on it for months and months ....read more about my crafty adventures?... )

8/5/09 05:18 pm - Doctor Who grief

I watched a vid of Russel T. Davis discussing his end with Doctor Who and I am all sad now.  I thought I was handling RTD and David Tennant leaving so well.  I think fan stages of grief are totally different, but similar then the 7 stages of grief.  It is much more silly and ridiculous, but it can be real.  I am such a newbie I have a lot of mileage with the show available to me.  I am good!  No tears!

I can blame hormones right now.  I watched an episode of Medical Mysteries and almost started crying.  I have been avoiding the news because I know if I watched anything with Bill Clinton and the reporters released from N. Korea I would loose it.  I hate hormones and am SO asking for different drug at my next appointment.  The binge cleaning, the crying, the "I am really really really hungry" ...LAME!

7/29/09 11:24 pm - Sad news

Wednesday, originally uploaded by clairmonde.

Our outdoor kitty Wednesday has passed away. She was hit by a car.

I don't have a lot of photos of her. I wish I would have got a picture of her in the yard rolling around on her back and then licking her belly. It was sooo cute! I would go get the camera and she'd be on to me by the time I got back. Even though she was an outside kitty she liked toys. In this picture you can see her cow on a string tied up in the garage. It was an inside toy, but the other cats would loose toys under the door and she'd play with them. She'd even play with bits of bark dust.

She was a good mouser and will be missed. She would let us pet her sometimes and she slept in the garage, but really it was the other cats that loved her most! She would rub against Dashiell and lay in the yard with him. Hunter would give her kisses and hang out with her outside. Wednesday would even sneak in the kitchen to give Lulu a sniff sometimes. Miss Kitty pretended not to like her daughter, but they always ate together. Her brother Bright will miss her most of all.

7/28/09 02:14 am - Aha! I knew there was something about the Doctor's coat!

At Comic Con David Tennant was asked if he was a Firefly/Serenity fan. Yes/yes and he said it inspired him to ask for a long coat. And they gave him a long brown coat. BROWN COAT! To much of a geek collision for me, but more proof I can blame James Marsters and really Joss Whedon is to blame for my Doctor Who obsession! Watching Torchwood for a James Marsters fix post BTVS I was confused and needed to understand. Why wasn't Captain Jack's coat as awesome as it could be? Yeah its cool, and hot and nummy but it could be AWESOME. BTVS was always about cool coats. So it started...

April 19, 2008 - first day I watched Doctor Who. Utopia/The Sound of the Drums/Last of the Time Lords in one sitting. Let me refer to my LJ post of that day:

I've started watching Doctor Who in the hope that I will enjoy Torchwood more and thus enjoy the show surrounding James Marsters' hotness. I figured out why Captain Jack's and Captain John's coats aren't as cool as the could be - because the Doctor's has to be THE COOLEST. Oh it all makes sense now! The Doctor has to be the hottest in Hot Town no matter what. It's like a law of Sci-fi Fantasy right? Capt. Kirk always gets the girl. Nobody ever dies. The truth is out there. Doctor Who gets the the cooler coat. Alas Spike's coat is still THE coolest. Sorry Doctor.

So now can we smoosh RTD and Joss together and watch all the characters die? I mean, come on! Ooo, they should do like a Sci-fi Queer as Folk meets The Valley of the Dolls. Not Dollhouse, I just really would love Joss to do The Valley of the Dolls for some reason. It's been bugging me for awhile now.

Oh and btw, Spike might have a bitchin' coat, but The Doctor is the hottest is hot town. Swoon, I say swoon. Doesn't hurt at all that James Marsters, John Barrowman, and David Tennant are the cutest geeks in the entire world. Nummy!

7/26/09 03:17 am - Doctor Who and other geeky things

Started a tumblr blog with pretty pictures and pretty videos. saintclair.tumblr.com

Posted saturdays comic con vid with David Tennant, John Barrowman and RTD.  Very sweet that David made John swoon.  Mr Barrowman gets to smooch all the cute boys and it is so pretty to watch or we'd be jealous!  Don't know if I believe Ziggy that she saw David Tennant eating in San Diego.  So skinny but rather bouncing about so it all evens out.

Is it just me or do you want to take RTD and Joss Whedon and smoosh there geekiness together and see how many characters in sci-fi/fantasy just insta die in horrible but entertaining ways?  Just a thought!

7/25/09 12:49 am - Of all the Davids in the world, she had to stalk him.

My dear dear friend and excellent stalker ziggynj is at comic con. She sat at a bar and watched David Tennant eat dinner. SWOON She praised his adorableness and hotness and that he looked light enough to pick up and run off with, but no she didn't. There was no good way to get a picture. She is a nice stalker and gazed from a far.

I wish I could remember more details. Maybe she'll post them for us if I ask nicely. My head is pounding and I should probably take some drugs and go to bed. I've had the worst ear infection ever, well sinus/ear infection and my eczema is all blaring and I have a huge sore on my face! The geek saints have seen fit to make me happy I had no chance in hell of going to comic con. Not that I had one before, but if I did I still couldn't because I am all infirm and pathetic.

There was something else I was going to mention and now I can't remember what in the hell it was. Isn't that annoying? Well I hope to post more soon and respond to posts soon. Love to you all!

edit - I remembered! There are two dead moles on the walkway. Oh and a shrew. Keep meaning to ask, how many constitutes kitty spree killing?

7/14/09 11:57 pm - Friendship is rare...oh shit there's a bear

As I was adding friends ::::waves:::: I got this song stuck in my head.

Once I had this song stuck in my head, but only like two lines and I thought "Is that a Muppet song?" Jack & Kyle are kind of Muppets right?

7/13/09 09:00 pm - Geek Whine

Having to wait till Sunday July 26th to watch Doctor Who Planet of the Dead just seems far too far away! At least next Monday Torchwood starts. Wibble.

I am watching Top Gear and digesting pizza. I drove all the way to Salem for pizza which is kind of silly. Grandma wanted pizza and if I was going to put on a bra I was going to get damn good pizza!

7/5/09 02:01 am - Geekery

Hope everyone had a happy 4th of July! Mine was okay. Cats are doing good!

While checking out all the crafty geek fun at [info]crafty_tardis found a link to one fine example of etsy geekery! And awesome craftsmanship! Not just Doctor Who geeky and some pretty hand bound leather books so check out BindMe on Etsy

I have yet to contribute to crafty tardis. My current xstitch is kicking my ass, but I am determined to finish it. I might just hop in the car and drive it to Cali to give to Eileen since it is taking me soooo long to finish. And the bad part of it is I want to make two more! Maybe just one more? Ug.

6/28/09 02:24 pm - 80s nostalgia and geeking

Michael Jackson's passing has created wave after wave of 80s nostalgia with a dash of early 90s for me. I can remember watching Thriller with my parents. BOTH of my parents! I remember Dad being worried I'd get nightmares, but that it was such a big deal and having loved the song on vinyl I could not be refused. Staring at the Thriller album cover, the part that folded out, was a big deal too. I was never had a crush on Michael or anything, but he had an other worldly quality. He was like an alien who made lots and lots of money.

Mom was into pop music so I was into pop music. I know all the words to bunches of songs and I am always like "Why can I sing along to this? Oh yeah, THE 80s!" It amuses me. I was the kid that could hustle people at cards and sing all the words to Hall & Oats songs. I was AWESOME!

One summer in middle school a friend and I had this little sing and dance routine we did to a Michael Jackson song that I can't even think of the name of right now. All the singing was "Eeeee Eeeee! Wooooooo! Owwwww!" and there was a little gesture with each exclamation and if you get me drunk enough I will show it to you. Anyways we were at a lake practicing in the water of all places, probably to minimize public knowledge of our practicing, and this guy glides by on his wind surfer. As soon as we hit the "Owwwwww!" he went flying of his board! I think we frightened him or amused him to the point of laughing off the wind surfing board.

In Other News You might consider this spoilers for The Doctor Who episode The Next Doctor which premiered on BBC America Saturday but mostly it is just Doctor Who Geeking )
